Building Trust in Diverse Project Teams - An Ethics Presentation

Registration for this webinar through MnSPE is via webinar ONLY.

To attend the full day ASHRAE conference at the Radisson Blu Mall of America

that includes this and the Ethics II session led by MnSPE, register directly with ASHRAE here.

No project or effort succeeds without teamwork, and teamwork is built on trust. Engineers bring knowledge, expertise and the values of professionalism to their teams; as human beings, they also bring their own values and perhaps some blind spots regarding the values, interests and perspectives of other teammates. When we are aware of these non-technical factors, we are best able to work with others to build trust and execute effectively as teammates. This session will identify common challenges to maintaining trust on project teams, and ethics-based strategies for engineers to take a leadership role in addressing those challenges.

Learning Objectives:

This interactive presentation will address the following concepts and skills:

  • Understanding the dynamics of trust in the context of an effective project team
  • Identifying barriers and challenges related to trust on a team
  • Recovering from mistakes in ways that strengthen relationships
  • Recognizing and mitigating implicit biases
  • Developing an explicit, shared understanding of differing perspectives and working through differences
